A recent survey of 436 men aged 18 to 67 suggests that the reason some men refuse to wear condoms is because they simply don’t fit right. It’s a known fact that condoms that don’t fit correctly have an increased chance of breaking.

The surveyed men also gave the some ol’ complaint about reduced sexual pleasure – for both partners – when condoms are used.

Nearly half of the 436 men – about 45% – admitted that during the previous three months, they had used a condom that didn’t fit right.

It may sound like a silly thing to research, but this study has implications around in the world. This is big news for countries trying to educate and encourage people to use condoms to help prevent pregnancy, STDs and the transmission of HIV.

“Men and their female sex partners may benefit from public health efforts designed to promote the improved fit of condoms,” Dr. Richard Crosby of the University of Kentucky and Dr. Bill Yarber of the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction in Indiana wrote.

… “Moreover, the increased likelihood that men using ill-fitting condoms will remove condoms before sex ends constitutes another form of condom failure. Fortunately, it seems likely that these problems could be rectified through education programs,” the researchers wrote.
